Apparently yesterday was National High Five Day.  I missed it.  What the hell?  I missed National Talk Like a Pirate Day, too.

I am bitter, and unfulfilled.

There is a plus side, though:  I haven't missed National Ice Cream Day!  And May 11th is totally National Eat What You Want Day.  I can get on board with that!

So I'm away from my computer for one day – one day! – and that day happens to be when Katie Holmes' basketball bursts – producing only one human (alien?) baby girl.  Well, congrats TomKat!  As for the rest of you…I'd start preparing for the end of days.

Everybody loves Starbucks!  I wonder what a tall, non-fat caramel macchiato costs in yen?

Spelling and Starbucks go well together

Usually film and movie promotion is limited to limited-edition plastic cups from fast food chains and action figures in your local retail store.  But Starbucks, ever the pioneer of something in the entertainment/coffee world, is running a really unique promotion for the spelling bee/slice of life movie Akeelah and the Bee.  They have bright green flash cards and even coasters featuring winning spelling bee words and their definitions.  It's like 10th grade vocab-quiz cram sessions all over again – and I love it!

Interestingly enough, the movie is also "co-presented" by Starbucks.  According to this article as, Starbucks Entertainment President Ken Lombard said the film was chosen because it is "compelling and inspirational, it was very fitting with Starbucks from a brand perspective.  Lionsgate was the right partner. They are very innovative. We were very impressed with the quality of films they select."

I find the promotion especially fitting because I have long found Starbucks the perfect place to Scrabble – and hey JJP, now you won't even need to your cheat sheet.  Starbucks has provided that for you!

chocolate_truffles.jpgFinally, a long-running study confirms that chocolate is good for you.  Apparently, the flavanoids in cocoa beans lower your blood pressure.

Well duh.  Women have known for years that chocolate is good for you! Why do you think we eat so much of it? (Wink wink, nudge nudge.)

Obviously, don’t eat too much or you’ll get fat, blah blah blah.  That said, go out and eat yourself a piece of dark chocolate today.  After all, it’s Fat Tuesday, and after all, it’s good for you!

PS – if that picture doesn’t make you at least a little bit hungry, you’re just not human.
